Concrete on the channel bottom was breaking up at numerous locations and exposing native material to the scouring effects of high flows. Several locations required urgent maintenance. The Penticton Creek Showcase Project consisted of the reconstruction of an 83m long section of creek. It involved removing the concrete lining, widening the channel, and placing large river cobble in the creek to create three riffle-pool sequences.

PROJECT ADVANCEMENTS:

  • Improved fish migration through lower velocities and increased water depths
  • Enhanced fish habitat with resting and rearing areas
  • Boosted channel appearance by replacing concrete with natural materials
  • Addressed the failing concrete channel lining issues
